MV Thepnampa Liveaboard Itineraries

Thepnampa Liveaboard Features and Benefits

The Thepnampa does mostly Burma - Mergui - Myanmar itineraries, with a few Thailand trips thrown in for good measure. She leave from Ranong, Thailand, and not from Phuket. So passengers wanting to board this boat need to get to Ranong on their own. See map below. Ranong and Kawthaung in Burma are across the river from each other. NokAir flies daily from Bangkok to Ranong and with all of the itineraries below, you may fly the day you depart the boat as long as it's the evening flight. Nok has one early morning flight and one evening flight.

NokAir flies from DMK or Don Muang in Bangkok to Ranong with two flights daily. The Ranong Airport is a 20 minute drive from downtown and the pier is a 10 minute drive from the dive shop. Ranong is a cool, quiet little town with several decent hotels, great little markets and coffee shops, and plenty of cross border trade. If you get to Ranong early it's nice to rent a bike or car and take a drive north of town along the old Japanese WW2 railway line along the famous Isthmus Kra. The highway parallels the old railway which was torn up in 1945. There are beautiful views from Khao Tah Chi across to Burma. Ranong is also famous for it's natural hot springs and lots of waterfalls north on highway 4.

There are regular buses which travel from Ranong to anywhere in the country, north or south. The bus from Ranong to Phuket takes about six hours or so. You may also take a bus to Surat Thani and then catch a flight to Bangkok. Surat Thani is 180 km from Ranong. There are a number of hotels available in Ranong.
