Siam Dive n Sail: Phuket Hotel and Beach Overview

Phuket is an island in the Andaman Sea which is connected by a two-km long bridge to the mainland. Phuket has an international airport, many harbors and ports and a great infrastructure in place. Most of the tourism activity takes place along Phuket's beautiful West Coast where large bays form long coral-sand beaches. Phuket receives over four million tourists every year, so in many ways it's like Hawaii, Cote D'Azur or the Gold Coast of Australia; there's a little bit of everything and something to offer for everyone. If you're expecting some remote jungle, you'll be disappointed. Phuket is sophisticated, trendy and very international in flavor. Thais from all over the country come here to find work or make a better life for themselves; foreigners from every country come to make their home here. Thai people, especially Phuketians, are very welcoming and have open minds about how things should be done. Phuket is like no other island or province in the country. More English and other languages are spoken here than in any other part of the country.

Kamala Beach Phuket

Just north of the lights and noise of Patong lies Kamala Beach, a quieter stretch of sand with more relaxed feel. This well-enclosed bay and fishing village surrounded by forested hills is one of the most beautiful places in Phuket. With its quieter pace, over the last few years, Kamala has become a favored spot for retirees and other longer-term visitors staying in small hotels, villas and apartment rentals nestled around the village.

Kata Karon Beaches Phuket

Kata and Karon beaches are considered by most to be one area on Phuket, but there are actually four beaches along this stretch of the coast. Running south from Patong they are Karon Noi, Karon Yai, Kata Yai and Kata Noi. All four beaches fall under the jurisdiction of Tambon Karon (Karon Village). These are considered by many to offer the best of both worlds; quieter beach areas, more variety of beaches, and a enough shopping and nightlife to keep you happy.

A quiet little spot at the southern end of Phuket, Nai Harn is one of the island's most beautiful locations and most popular places with in-the-know locals. This quiet and tranquil place has only a few hotels including the Le Royal Phuket Yacht Club and is a favorite anchorage for boats during the high season. Great for swimming from November to April. The local restaurants just above the beach make a great place to relax with a sundowner. Rawai beach is only a few minutes drive away and has lots of restaurants and bars.

Khao Lak Resort Area Phang Nga

Khao Lak is a quiet destination best known for its relaxed atmosphere, long beaches and scenic interior– an hour's drive north from Phuket International Airport. Khao Lak's resort area runs approximately 25km north from this point you see to the left so is as big an area as Phuket Island. This area gets more rain than Phuket and there is little public transportation, so normally when you get to your resort you don't stray far unless you have a car.
