Dive and Travel Insurance Options
Dive Accident Insurance
Dive accident insurance is required on most liveaboard dive boats and most dive resorts. Besides, it’s just smart to be covered. Your own health insurance may or may not cover you for diving accidents, it’s important that you check with the company before you dive. Diving accidents can be very costly, running into the tens of thousands of dollars. If you are transported to a chamber, they will start treatment immediately, and if you don’t have insurance you may be financially devastated. We still do not completely know what causes decompression sickness, there are a variety of factors. Insurance is relatively inexpensive compared to chamber treatment which is the only avenue available to a diving physician or chamber attendant.
If you dive more than a few times per year, it’s a good idea to have yearly coverage through the Divers Alert Network in Europe, the US or in the Asia Pacific Region. DiveAssure or Divemaster also offer good programs. If you only do one or two trips in the year, most boats offer coverage by the day. Please check with us to see your options. The Thai government requires all divers to have diving insurance to dive in the national parks. This is required.
Travel & Cancellation Insurance
While travel insurance is usually not required to book, most dive travel, especially liveaboard travel, is quite expensive. It will probably be one of the more expensive holidays you take in your lifetime. If you become ill or have a work related issue which prevents you from travel, having travel insurance will help you recover those costs. Travel insurance covers airline tickets, liveaboard trips, hotels and some even cover you in the loss of your diving or camera gear.
