Bent and his Students

Bent Posejpal, PADI Course Director, is a Norwegian national and has been living in Phuket since 1990. Yep, Bent ("It's hard to admit you're Bent") is his real name. It's one of those weird Scandinavian things. He was Instructional Manager at Phuket's first 5-Star IDC Center for over six years before leaving and joining John Williams in partnership, forming Siam Dive n' Sail in Phuket in 1996.

Bent practically grew up diving, as his father owned a dive center in Norway and Bent helped out as a child and also as a divemaster and instructor when the time came. He was diving at the deep end of a pool on scuba when he was about four years old. His father was the first PADI Instructor in Norway, way back when. Bent has dived extensively in Norway–both as a navy diver and as a PADI professional–as well as thousands of dives here in Thailand.

Bent became a PADI Instructor in 1988 and staffed many IDC's prior to becoming certified as a PADI Course Director in 1994. Since then, he has conducted more than 100 IDC programs in Southeast Asia and around the world. He has an extremely high referral rate among his former students. Helping people find careers in scuba diving is what he does. He has trained over 1,000 PADI Instructors, and was rewarded the Platinum Frequent Trainer–the highest rating given by PADI–in 2007. Before becoming a Course Director, Bent worked as an instructor and also guided lots of dive trips to the Similan islands and Hin Daeng as well as day trips around Phuket. He worked in Phi Phi for a season, and has conducted many IDC programs on that island with various dive centers there.

Bent's talents also run to writing, as he has been published several times in Norwegian diving magazines, writing about upper-level education and about the wonderful diving to be found in Thailand's waters. He lives with his Thai wife Lada Posejpal here in Phuket and they have a daughter, Sylvia.

Bent speaks English like a native, as well as the Scandinavian languages. In his spare time he likes playing golf, so if you want to hit a few golf balls while here before or after your diving trip, get in touch. When he's not teaching IDCs, he answering diving questions and he'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. If you have a question for Bent, send him an email.
